How Can I Volunteer?
Whether it’s helping stuff envelopes or sponsoring a fundraiser or helping to load books and computers into a ship container destined to Ghana, our volunteers always feel great about giving their time. Especially the ones that are able to visit Ghana say their experience was exceptional and even life-changing.
There are many ways to help. Just contact us at schoerkefoundation@yahoo,com.
Host an Education and Fundraising Event
Some of our most successful volunteers have simply hosted events at which Board members or visitors to the Heritage Academy have offered testimonials as to the value and success of the Foundation’s work.
An individual or family could sponsor an education and fund-raising event at their home inviting 10, 15 or 20 friends to hear about the work of the Foundation. If you are a member of a civic organization such as a Rotary or Lions Club, or a church, synagogue or mosque you could facilitate an educational forum.
Run a Fund Raiser
Many of our volunteers have created their own fundraisers in their communities. If you are a student in elementary, middle or high school, or are a college student, you could sponsor a fund raiser at your school. College fraternities and seniorities, and sports teams could participate. Similarly, we have had many religious organizations interested in helping led by spirited volunteers, who have spear-headed fundraisers.
Identify Opportunities for Matching Donations
Some of our donors have relationships with employers that have matching gift programs. These programs can have extremely beneficial results to the work of the Foundation.
Hands, Minds, Travel & Teach
Schoerke Foundation has no paid staff. We keep our administrative costs as low as possible. So, volunteer help is gratefully encouraged. We think it’s great when interested people come up with their own way to advance our mission. There is no end to creative ideas.
Hands
This includes administrative help like opening mail, stuffing envelopes, helping with fund-raising events, or participating in our gift-wrapping program during the holiday season.
Minds
This might involve sharing a story, promoting our work by getting friends involved, talking us up on social media like Facebook, or speaking on behalf of the Foundation at your club, school group, civic organization, or faith group. We will be happy to provide the information and materials you need.
Travel & Teach
Go to Ghana in the summer to volunteer and teach. Heritage Academy has an annual summer program, and over 120 Americans have visited. Special reading clinics are held. In addition, the students are fascinated by American culture and short courses in subjects like American history, entrepreneurship, creative writing, music, and art are encouraged.
